
Maryland crematory shut down after bodies improperly stored, some 'decomposing'

CHARLES COUNTY, Md. (7News) — A crematorium in southern Maryland with a history of improperly storing human remains had its license suspended in January after a state board found they left bodies piling up in torn bags and boxes in rooms without proper cooling,according to a report.
Inspectors with the state health department's Board of Morticians and Funeral Directors found at least 18 bodies inside the Charles County-based Heaven Bound Cremation Service that had not been cremated, some of them left in the facility for almost a year, officials said following a Jan. 10 inspection.
Some families turned to the Heaven Bound Crematory in a time of sadness over the loss of their loved ones. Now they’re feeling angry and betrayed. One by one customers are sharing their stories with 7News.
