The 8′ × 14′ walk-in mortuary cooler is a 112 sq ft insulated box built from 4″ foamed-in-place urethane panels that lock together with cam-action fasteners. Painted 26-gauge steel skins, chrome-plated door hardware and NSF-, UL- and ETL-listed construction make it a commercial-grade walk-in built for years of daily use.
Site requirements
- A solid, flat, level concrete slab at ground level for floorless installation (see floor requirements below)
- At least 2″ of clearance around the box
- A 110V outlet if you add the optional heated door jamb

Description of materials supplied
This walk-in is supplied as a complete insulated panel box with refrigeration equipment. The following materials are included in the price:
- Wall panels. 4″ foamed-in-place urethane, R-25 wall panels with painted 26-gauge steel skins inside and out, tongue-and-groove edges and cam-action locks for airtight joints, sized for the 8′ × 14′ box.
- Ceiling panels. 4″ foamed-in-place urethane, R-25 ceiling panels of the same painted 26-gauge steel construction, cam-locked to the wall panels.
- Door. One 36″ × 76″ flush-mounted, self-closing door with a standard heavy-duty, non-lockable door handle, chrome-plated hinges, perimeter gasket seal, roller-magnet door closer and interior safety release.
- Floor screeds. U-shaped floor screeds for floorless installation on a qualifying slab (see floor requirements below).
- Refrigeration system. One remote two-piece refrigeration system: condensing unit and evaporator coil. The system is DOE-compliant, energy-efficient and designed for A2L refrigerant. Equipment only.
- Documentation. Panel layout and assembly instructions.

Floor requirements
Floorless installation requires a solid, flat, level concrete slab at ground level with no cracks, dips, humps or other imperfections, and no basement, crawl space or occupied space below. An insulated floor is required when the existing floor is not level, and when the walk-in is installed on a second story, mezzanine or any floor above a basement, crawl space or occupied space. The insulated floor is not a leveling system, and above-grade installations need the structural load confirmed by a qualified professional. Selecting No floor confirms these site conditions.
Refrigeration scope
The remote two-piece refrigeration system is supplied as equipment only. Refrigerant, line sets, wiring, drain and installation materials are not included. A licensed refrigeration contractor installs, evacuates, charges and starts up the system according to local codes and the A2L safety requirements that apply to your site. Panels meet the DOE minimum insulation requirements for walk-in coolers (R-25) under 10 CFR 431.306.

What is included with this walk-in mortuary cooler?
Wall panels, ceiling panels and one 36″ × 76″ self-closing door with a standard heavy-duty, non-lockable handle, chrome-plated hinges, a gasket seal and a roller-magnet door closer. A remote two-piece refrigeration system (condensing unit and evaporator) is included, and it is DOE-compliant, energy-efficient and designed for A2L refrigerant. Coolers include U-shaped floor screeds for floorless installation. Lighting, insulated floors, ramps and other accessories are optional.
What is not included?
Refrigerant (Freon), refrigeration line sets and fittings, line insulation, electrical wiring and disconnects, condensate drain lines, installation labor, installation supplies and permits. When do I need an insulated floor?
A floorless cooler needs a solid, flat, level concrete slab at ground level with no cracks, dips or humps, and no basement, crawl space or occupied space below. An insulated floor is required when the floor is not level, and for second-story, mezzanine and other above-grade installations. Selecting No floor in the builder confirms these site conditions. What temperature does it hold, and when is a freezer the better choice?
This cooler holds 34–40°F for short-term body holding while arrangements are made. Facilities that hold remains longer or hold unidentified cases add a mortuary freezer. Compare both in mortuary cooler vs. morgue freezer.
Is this walk-in DOE-compliant and energy-efficient?
Yes. The 4″ R-25 panels meet the DOE walk-in insulation minimums in 10 CFR 431.306, which call for R-25 cooler and R-32 freezer walls, ceilings and doors. The self-closing door and remote two-piece refrigeration system are DOE-compliant, and the system is designed for lower-GWP A2L refrigerant.
What does A2L refrigerant mean for installation?
A2L refrigerants are lower-GWP and mildly flammable, so the installing contractor follows the A2L safety requirements in the codes that apply to your site, including refrigerant leak detection where required. Read A2L refrigerants explained.
How do I size a walk-in for my body count?
Start from peak census, not the average, and plan the racking before the box. Health-facility planning guides use about 3 m² (roughly 32 sq ft) per body on a loose tray or trolley, and multi-tier mortuary racks store more bodies in the same footprint. Use our capacity planning guide.
