Single-Body vs Multi-Body Mortuary Coolers: Which Configuration Does Your Facility Need?

Start with caseload math, not annual call volume
Annual call volume is the number most owners quote, but it is the wrong number for sizing a cooler. What matters is peak simultaneous holding — the largest number of decedents you will hold at one time, which is driven by weekly case clustering, refrigeration mandates in your state, ME/coroner release delays, and family scheduling.
A practical estimate:

Required positions ≈ (peak weekly cases × average days held) ÷ 7. A firm with 8 peak-week cases held 4 days each needs roughly 5 positions — not the 3 that annual averages would suggest.
