A no-lift workflow moves a decedent from place of death to cooler shelf using only horizontal slides and mechanical lifts — no staff member ever supports body weight by hand. It takes a height-adjustable cot, a lift or roll-in cooler, and roller racking, all set to matching heights.

Notice what never happens: nobody kneels, nobody carries, nobody holds weight while someone else repositions. Every vertical move is hydraulic or electric.
The workflow only works if surfaces meet. Before you order equipment, measure your cot's deck height at full raise and compare it against every surface it must feed: van deck, prep table, lift platform, cooler entry. A one-inch step is a bump a tray rolls over. A six-inch step is a lift, and a lift is an injury waiting for a heavy case and a tired employee. Many firms run a hybrid, with a roll-in cooler for fresh arrivals and short holds, and tiered roller racks for longer-term capacity. Floor tracks or guide rails keep cots aligned so a single operator can dock a loaded cot without a second set of hands steadying it.
Both types remove the manual lift. They differ in effort, speed, and price.

A manual unit is a legitimate no-lift solution — pumping a pedal is leg work, not spine work. The real test of a no-lift setup is whether one person can run it alone at 3 a.m. That requires three things working together: a cot the operator can load into the van solo (auto-loading or a van-mounted receiving system), a lift with powered raise so nobody is stabilizing a tray while pumping, and roller racks that accept a tray with one steady push.
