All American Mortuary Coolers units — self-contained and remote — are rated for a maximum ambient operating temperature of 80°F (26.7°C). This page clarifies ambient temperature requirements, drain-line requirements, and installation responsibility. Read before ordering or placing any unit in service.

Installation is not included in equipment purchase unless explicitly stated on your sales contract. Installation cost is the customer’s responsibility.

Ambient Temperature: Definition & Measurement

Ambient temperature is the surrounding air temperature in the room where your cooler operates — not the interior compartment temperature. All self-contained and remote units are designed to cool the body compartment to 36–39°F when surrounding air is no higher than 80°F.

Unit Rating

All models rated for ≤80°F ambient. Operating above 80°F reduces efficiency, causes continuous compressor cycling, and may prevent maintaining set temperature.

How to Measure

  • Measure in the room or facility — not inside the compartment
  • Take reading at cooler height, 12–18 inches away from unit
  • Stay away from direct sun, HVAC outlets, or heat sources
  • Record readings in peak seasons

If Your Facility Runs Hot

If ambient regularly exceeds 80°F: upgrade facility HVAC, add insulation, or contact us for remote-condenser or custom solutions. Excess ambient heat may void warranty.

Tools to Verify Your Ambient Temperature

Use these federal resources to understand your local climate and facility cooling adequacy:

2025 Regulatory Requirement: Drain Line Installation

NEW in 2025: Customer-Installed Drain Line Required

All new equipment ordered from American Mortuary Coolers as of 2025 requires the customer to attach a drain line on-site. This comes from updated federal efficiency and environmental standards. The drain must be connected to the cooler’s drain port and routed to a proper floor or facility drain before the unit is placed in operation.

Pre-2025 equipment does NOT require a drain line. Those units were manufactured under the prior standard and operate without an external drain connection.

The customer is responsible for drain line materials and installation labor.

Pre-2025 Equipment

No external drain line required. If you have pre-2025 equipment and need to verify, contact us: 1-888-792-9315.

2025 & Later Equipment

Customer must: connect drain tubing (typically ½″ ID) to drain port, route to sanitary floor drain, ensure gravity-fed and never sealed, test drain before placing cooler in service.

Installation: Responsibility & Cost

Installation is NOT Included Unless Expressly Stated on Your Sales Contract

Equipment purchase includes the cooler and basic hardware only. It does NOT include installation, site preparation, electrical work, drain-line installation, or operational testing. All installation costs, labor, and site preparation are the responsibility and financial obligation of the customer.

Customer Responsibilities

  • Electrical service (dedicated circuit, correct amperage)
  • Drain line plumbing (2025+ units)
  • HVAC to maintain ≤80°F ambient
  • Installation labor and equipment positioning
  • Packaging and crating removal
  • Site inspection and final operational testing

What We Provide

  • Equipment specification sheets
  • Installation guidance documents
  • Pre-delivery coordination
  • Technical startup support (phone/email)
  • Warranty coverage after successful installation

Optional Paid Installation

AMC can coordinate installation in select regions. Call to discuss scope and pricing:

Warranty Coverage & Operating Conditions

Warranty requires: ambient ≤80°F; proper installation per documentation; drain line connected and functional (2025+); electrical service within specs (±10% voltage); regular maintenance. Warranty does not cover cooling failure due to ambient temperatures exceeding 80°F, improper installation, or lack of facility cooling infrastructure.

FAQ

Q: My facility runs 82–85°F in summer. Can I still use a cooler?

A: Units are rated for 80°F maximum. Operating above that will reduce efficiency and may cause temperature drift. We recommend upgrading facility cooling first. Contact us to discuss remote-condenser options.

Q: Do I need a drain line on my 2023 cooler?

A: No. Pre-2025 equipment does not require an external drain line.

Q: Are electrical hookup and plumbing included in the price?

A: No. Equipment price includes the cooler and hardware only. All electrical work, plumbing, drain-line installation, and on-site labor are customer responsibilities unless a separate installation contract is signed.

Q: How do I verify my facility’s ambient temperature?

A: Use a calibrated thermometer at cooler height, 12–18 inches from the unit, away from sun and heat sources. Record readings year-round, especially during peak seasons. The National Weather Service provides local climate data to estimate expected ambient temps.
