Bulkhead Requirements & EV Installation Warnings for Van Decks

Two installation factors are easy to overlook and critical to get right: the partition bulkhead and electric-vehicle safety. Both affect whether a deck system can be installed safely on your van.

Why a bulkhead is required

Every AME double-deck system requires a van partition bulkhead. The bulkhead:

• Separates the cab from the load area for driver protection.
• Provides a structural anchor point for the deck frame.
• Helps keep the load contained under braking.

Without a proper bulkhead, a double-deck system can't be safely bolted in.

Vehicle configurations that restrict installation

Some factory options interfere with deck mounting:

• Rear A/C units can occupy the space and mounting points the deck needs.
• Dual rear-wheel (DRW) packages can change interior dimensions and restrict installation.

Electric vehicle (EV) warning

EV vans carry high-voltage battery systems routed in places a technician might drill. Improper drilling may cause serious injury or death. Deck systems on EVs must be installed by a technician trained on that specific vehicle, who knows where the high-voltage runs are. This is non-negotiable.

• Bulkhead present or planned.
• No conflicting rear A/C or DRW package (or a plan to work around it).
• EV platform? Confirm a qualified installer.
• Wheelbase and roof height meet the system minimums.
