Standard design features

  • Self-contained condensing unit. The compressor, condenser and evaporator come as one factory-packaged unit mounted on the cabinet, so no refrigeration lines are run on site.
  • Digital thermometer and temperature controller. A digital display shows the box temperature at a glance, and the controller holds the setpoint you choose for body holding.

Doors, casters and refrigeration

  • 6″ heavy-duty plated casters. Add a set of four casters to make the cabinet mobile: two locking and two non-locking. The heavy-duty plated wheels carry the loaded cabinet across prep-room floors, and the two locking casters hold it in place while you load and unload.
  • Chrome-plated lockable door handle. A standard handle is included. Add the chrome-plated lockable handle to keep the cooler closed to everyone except authorized staff.
  • Magnetic gasketed door seal. The insulated door closes against a magnetic gasket that seals the whole door edge, which keeps cold air in and holds 34–40°F after the door is opened. Clean and inspect the gasket weekly with mild soap and water.
  • Energy-compliant refrigeration. The self-contained drop-in refrigeration system uses A2L refrigerant and meets current DOE/EPA efficiency rules. Standard units are sized for a conditioned room, and upgrade levels are available for warmer rooms.

Required Air Clearance & Owner Maintenance, Policy VC-1.1

Standard on all AMC drop-in refrigeration systems.

  • 1″–1.5″ minimum air gap around the entire cabinet: all sides and rear, maintained permanently.
  • 16″ minimum unobstructed clearance above and around the compressor / condensing unit for airflow, heat rejection, and service access.
  • No shelving, cabinetry, soffits, dropped ceilings, boxed enclosures, adjacent equipment, or stored goods may encroach on either envelope.

Owner Maintenance Responsibility

The customer is responsible for ongoing maintenance of the compressor and refrigeration system, including annual professional service as needed, coil cleaning, drain-line clearing, gasket inspection, and verification of refrigerant charge and temperature performance.

Published exterior dimensions do not include required clearance, add it when planning your space.

Ambient Room Temperature & Refrigeration Sizing, Read Before You Order

The temperature of the room around your cooler matters as much as the cooler itself. Every refrigeration system rejects heat into that room. The hotter the room, the longer the compressor runs, and the harder it is to hold a steady 34–40°F . Standard refrigeration is sized for a conditioned, ventilated indoor room . If your space runs warm, upsize the refrigeration when you order.

Why ambient temperature is critical

  • Holding temperature: an undersized system in a hot room cannot recover after each door opening, so box temperature drifts above 40°F.
  • Compressor life: long, continuous run times in high heat wear out the compressor and fans early.
  • Condensation & humidity: warm, humid rooms produce more condensate. Connect the drain line, and route it to the external drain or a condensate pump.

How to choose

  • Account for heat from nearby equipment, sun-facing walls, bay doors and how often the cooler is opened.
  • Keep the required clearances: 1″–1.5″ around the cabinet and 16″ above and around the compressor. A blocked compressor behaves like a hot room.
  • Install indoors only. Unconditioned garages, mechanical rooms and rooms next to crematory retorts need a review before ordering, call 1-888-792-9315.

If the room runs warmer than 75°F, choose a Refrigeration Upsize option above.

Important, Read Before Startup: 2026 Packaged Refrigeration System

Due to the changing refrigerant models under new Freon regulations and updated guidelines, it is critical that you completely read all startup instructions before using your packaged refrigeration system. Please be sure you understand your startup settings and the proper overflow and humidity drainage ports, which require hose adapters.

Condensation Drain Requirement

All 2026 Heatcraft compressors require a drain hose attached to the drain port for condensation, to maximize energy efficiency. Connect the supplied drain line to the drain port before startup.

External Drain Connection

In high-humidity environments or during continuous heavy run-times, the unit may experience overflow. To prevent this, the indoor unit is equipped with a 3/4″ NPT external drain connection that can be routed to an external drain line or a field-supplied condensate pump.

Internal Re-Evaporation

Indoor PRO³ models include a hot-gas re-evaporation pan beneath the compressor, which uses hot refrigerant gas to evaporate condensation naturally during normal operation.

2026 and Forward, Heatcraft PRO³

2026 and later packaged Heatcraft PRO³ systems include many new features made possible by an extremely high-efficiency process. Reviewing the startup documentation ensures these systems perform as designed.

American Mortuary Coolers accepts no liability or responsibility for a customer's failure to properly start up the new AW2 fully packaged, plug-in refrigeration units. If you have specific questions regarding functions and operations, please reach out prior to ordering.

Sizing and cot compatibility

The 2-Body Standard Upright is the most compact AMC upright, built for small funeral homes, coroner offices, hospital morgues and crematory holding rooms. For bariatric clearance at the same capacity, see the 2-Body Bariatric Upright (2BX), with a 36″ clear door. For one more position in the same footprint, see the 3-Body Standard Upright (3B).

Frequently asked questions

Does it ship assembled?

Either way. It ships as an unassembled cam-locked panel kit with instructions, or factory assembled. Choose under Assembly & Casters; casters can be added to either.

How much clearance does it need around it?

A minimum 1″ to 1.5″ air gap around the entire cabinet, plus 16″ of unobstructed clearance above the compressor.

Who is responsible for maintaining the compressor?

The owner. The customer is responsible for ongoing maintenance of the compressor and refrigeration system, including annual professional service as needed.

What electrical supply does it need?

A dedicated 115V / 20-amp circuit. The unit draws 4.6 running amps and ships with a NEMA 5-20R cord and plug, plug-and-play, no hard-wiring. See the Electrical & Compressor Specifications above.

Do I need a drain line?

In high-humidity or high-temperature environments, yes, attach a hose to the external drain connection and route to a drainage source. Full details on the packaged refrigeration manuals page.

How do I pick door hinge?

Match the swing to your prep-room flow, then choose right-hand, left-hand or no preference before adding the cooler to your cart. You can also note it at checkout or call 1-888-792-9315 after ordering. There is no charge for door handing. "Either" lets the factory ship the standard-default hinge if you don't have a fixed plumbing or workflow constraint.

What temperature does it maintain?

34–40°F body holding standard.

Return Policy: All coolers, racks, lifts, and other products are non-returnable, no exceptions. All refrigeration products purchased on or after 1/1/2026 are 100% non-returnable under any circumstances. Please review our full Return Policy before purchasing.
