It is a refrigerated cabinet that stores bodies on stacked tiers behind one or more doors, rather than in a room or at cot height.
With a mortuary lift raised to the tier height and the tray rolled across. A lift removes the manual lift and is strongly recommended for anything above the second tier.
Upright gives more bodies per square foot. Roll-in avoids lifting entirely but holds fewer bodies. Many funeral homes run one of each.
