Mortuary rack buying guide

Choose a mortuary rack in three steps: how many tiers, which way it loads, and which tray width you use. Every tier holds one body.

  1. Step 1

    Pick the tier count

Racks come in 2 to 5 tiers. More tiers hold more bodies in the same floor space. On the standard frame the first tier sits at 21" and each tier is 16.25" above the last, so plan a lift for the upper tiers.

  2. Step 2

    Choose the loading direction

End-loading suits narrow rooms with racks side by side. Side-loading suits a lift that approaches from the aisle. Multi-directional takes both. Cantilever racks have 42" arms and no front posts for open lift access.

  3. Step 3

    Match the tray width

Stainless trays come in 23", 27" and 30" widths for standard, larger and bariatric cases. HDPE rack boards are barriers on the rollers and are not for lifting or transfer.

About Mortuary Lifts, Racking Systems & Storage Trays

Cadaver racks, mortuary lifts and storage trays for professional body-storage workflows. We supply storage racks, lifts, racking systems and trays for funeral homes, hospital morgues, medical examiner offices and anatomy programs. Compare construction, loading direction, tier count and lift range below, or call 1-888-792-9315 for rack-count and compatibility planning.

Cadaver Storage Racks

Each rack holds one decedent per tier on 1.9" gravity-free rollers. The standard frame is welded 10-gauge steel on 5" locking casters, 31" x 85" outside and 28" x 82" inside, with the first tier at 21" and tiers 16.25" apart. Two-tier racks carry 850 lb per tier and the stainless 5TMD-SST carries 1,000 lb per tier. See the cadaver handling and storage racks guide.

Mortuary Lift Systems

A lift brings each tier to working height so staff never lift a body by hand. Choose manual foot-pump hydraulic for no charging, or 12V battery power for frequent transfers. See mortuary lift systems, casket lifts and crematory scissor lifts.

Lift Type and power Capacity Height range Top

Mortuary Racking Systems

Racks, trays, lifts and the cooler opening work as one system. Match the loading direction to your room and your lift.

Rack style Loads from Best for
End-loading Foot end of the tray Narrow rooms, racks placed side by side against a wall
Side-loading Long side of the tray Shallow rooms where the lift approaches from the aisle
Multi-directional End or side Rooms that change layout, or mixed lift types
Cantilever Open front, no front posts Fast lift access, high-volume rooms

Cantilever racks carry each tier on 42" arms with no front posts. The 4-tier model comes mobile (2000-4TC-C, 46" W x 90" D x 99" H) or stationary (2000-4TC-L) on leveling feet.

Mortuary Storage Trays

Stainless trays carry a body between rack, lift and table. HDPE boards are barriers on the rack rollers and are not for lifting or transfer. See the cooler racks and body trays guide and all body trays and boards.

Tray or board Size Use
TITAN 23" tray 23" x 78", 18 ga stainless Standard storage and rack transfer
TITAN 27" tray 27" x 78", 16 ga stainless Larger decedents
TITAN 30" tray 30" x 78", 14 ga stainless Bariatric cases
HDPE storage board 23.5" x 76" Barrier board on rollers; not for lifting or transfer
Oversized HDPE board 29" wide Barrier board for wider cases

Frequently Asked Questions — Cadaver Storage Racks & Mortuary Lifts

What is a cadaver storage rack?

What is the difference between end loading and side loading racks?

End loading racks take trays from the foot end, which suits narrow rooms. Side loading racks take trays from the long side, which suits wider rooms with open lateral access. Multi-directional racks accept both.
