When to go custom

When to order a custom size mortuary lift

Most funeral homes, crematories and hospital morgues are well served by one of our standard 1,000 lb mortuary lifts. A custom size or custom options make sense when the lift has to meet a fixed point in your building that a standard frame can't reach comfortably.

  • Retort loading heights. Crematory charging doors sit at different heights from one manufacturer to the next. A custom crematory lift built to your sill height keeps the transfer level.
  • Tall or low cooler tiers. Upper positions on mortuary cooler racks can sit higher than a standard body lift travels, and bottom tiers can sit lower.
  • Larger cases. Bariatric transfers may need a custom size cadaver lift with a wider or longer platform.
  • Tight paths. Narrow doors, hallways and elevators can limit the overall width and length of the lift.
  • Non-standard trays and boards. Rollers and platform width can be matched to the body trays and storage boards you already use.

Custom sizes

Custom sizes we're asked for most

Every custom size mortuary lift starts from your measurements. These are the requests we see most often. If yours isn't listed, send it anyway.

Request a custom size →

  • Longer or wider platforms for bariatric cases, oversized trays and double-width boards.
  • Higher lift travel to reach the top tier of a walk-in cooler rack or a high retort door.
  • Lower starting height so the lift slides under cots, racks and low cooler tiers.
  • Narrower overall width for tight doors, hallways and elevators.
  • Matched roller spacing for the trays and boards already in your cooler.

Custom options

Custom options for mortuary scissor lifts

Combine a custom size with the custom options below. Tell us what the lift has to do and we'll recommend the frame. Not every option fits every model, so we'll tell you what's practical before you commit.

Platform size

Length and width of the top, sized to your trays, boards or cot.

Working heights

The lowest and highest height the lift needs to reach, from floor to top surface.

Capacity

Standard frames are rated to 1,000 lb. Tell us the heaviest case you plan for.

Top surface

Flat stainless, roller deck, multi-directional top or a covered top for discreet transport.

Lift power

Manual hydraulic pump or battery-powered electric lift.

Integrated scale

Weigh the case on the lift without a separate transfer.

Casters and brakes

Caster size and locking brakes suited to your floors and thresholds.

Frame material

Stainless steel or a lighter aluminum frame where weight matters.

Starting models

Start from a standard mortuary lift

Most custom size and custom option requests begin with one of these lifts. Pick the closest one and tell us what needs to change, or choose "Not sure" in the form and we'll recommend a model. Each lift can also be bought as listed.

How to measure

Measurements to send with your request

A tape measure and a few photos are usually enough for us to size a custom mortuary lift. If you're not sure about a number, leave it blank and we'll call you to go through it.

  1. Transfer heights. Measure from the floor to each point the lift has to meet: the retort sill, each cooler rack tier, the cot deck, the prep or autopsy table.
  2. Tray or board size. Length and width of the trays, boards or containers that ride on the lift.
  3. Clearances. The narrowest door, hallway or elevator the lift has to pass through.
  4. Loading direction. End loading, side loading, or both.
  5. Heaviest case. The largest weight you need to plan for.

Questions

Custom mortuary lift questions

Can you build a mortuary lift to a custom size?

Yes. Platform size, working heights, top surface, power and scale can be specified on most of our scissor lift frames. Send your measurements and we'll confirm what can be built before quoting.

What custom options are available on a mortuary lift?

Custom options include the top surface (flat stainless, rollers, multi-directional or covered), manual hydraulic or battery power, an integrated scale, caster size and brakes, and a stainless or aluminum frame. We'll confirm which custom options fit the model you choose.

How do I get a quote for a custom lift?

Send the request form on this page, call 1-888-792-9315, or send an RFQ through our PO // RFQ desk. You can also request a quote for a standard lift with changes noted.

How long does a custom mortuary lift take?

It depends on the design and how much it differs from a standard model. Your written quote includes the lead time, so you'll know before you order.

What is the difference between a crematory lift and a mortuary lift?

A crematory lift is a mortuary scissor lift set up to reach a retort's charging height, often with a low starting height and a roller or flat stainless top. The same frames are used as cadaver lifts and body lifts for cooler racks, cots and prep tables.

Should I choose a manual hydraulic or a battery-powered lift?

Manual hydraulic lifts are simpler and cost less. Battery-powered electric lifts are easier on staff when the lift is used many times a day or at the top of its range. We can help you weigh the two for your workload.

Can a custom lift include a scale?

Yes. An integrated scale can be added to most models so the case can be weighed on the lift.

Do you accept purchase orders and offer financing?

Yes. We accept purchase orders through our PO // RFQ desk, and business financing is available through our partner, subject to credit approval. See financing.
