American Mortuary Coolers · Equipment mobility

Mortuary cooler casters, lift casters and rack mobility

Specify the caster assembly with the equipment, not by wheel color or a photograph. Eligible upright coolers use a four-caster option with two braked and two unbraked casters. Our lift and mobile-rack assemblies use a different configuration: two swivel and two fixed casters with molded polyurethane wheels.

Caster quick fact sheet

Two distinct assemblies. Ratings below apply to an individual caster, not the equipment or its payload.

Wheel colorBlue, gray, black, maroon or another available color. No particular caster color is guaranteed.

Do not multiply the wheel ratings to create a new cooler, rack or lift capacity. Equipment weight, load distribution, floor conditions and the approved equipment rating still control. A component rating does not authorize moving fully loaded equipment.

Download the caster quick fact sheet (text). For a replacement, request the correct caster component and set. Component fit must be confirmed before a replacement order.

Side-load, dual-door and other upright configurations

Optional casters for the 3-body extra-wide side-load cooler require a written configuration quote. Confirm the complete assembly and overall height before ordering.

For dual-door, high-density and other models, send the exact model or serial number for a compatibility review. Not every upright base accepts this plate. The economy 3BE configuration excludes casters.

Scissor lift and rack casters are a separate assembly

The specified AME assembly uses four hard molded polyurethane casters: two swivel and two fixed/non-swivel, rated at 800 lb per caster. This is not the TPR/rubber-tread cooler assembly. Two swivel positions provide steering while the fixed positions establish a tracking direction; maneuverability still depends on the equipment geometry and the route.

Mobile rack versions use the same specified polyurethane caster assembly. A rack offered with leveling feet or optional casters is not automatically supplied on wheels. Review the selected rack configuration and drawing, then confirm clearance to compatible body trays and HD body boards and the lift platform.

For the separate transfer surface, read the mortuary rack roller-bar guide. A rack’s floor casters and its conveyor-style transfer rollers perform different jobs and have different specifications.

Color, powder coat and continuing product improvements

We continually improve our equipment and component selections. Caster colors may be blue, gray, black, maroon or another available color; a particular wheel color is not guaranteed. Powder-coat color and other cosmetic details on lifts and racks may differ from photographs. Materials and component appearance may also change as products are improved.

Photos are not a promise of an exact caster color or cosmetic finish. If a finish, material, dimension or functional configuration is essential to your facility, obtain written confirmation before ordering. Cosmetic-variation notices do not replace the accepted order specifications, the applicable warranty or rights that cannot be waived by law.

Questions buyers ask about mortuary cooler casters

How many locking casters are in an upright cooler set?

Four casters total: two have brakes and two do not. Do not confuse that brake arrangement with the two-swivel/two-fixed configuration specified for lift and rack assemblies.

Does “4 × 4½ inches” identify the bolt-hole spacing?

No. It is the top-plate fastening size. Hole-center spacing is a separate measurement and is not supplied by that plate dimension. Confirm the mounting pattern before ordering a replacement.

Are all these wheels rubber?

No. The specified upright cooler assembly uses TPR/rubber tread, with alternate rubber-tread selections possible. The specified lift and rack assembly uses molded polyurethane, not rubber.

Does an 800 lb caster make my lift a higher-capacity lift?

No. The caster rating does not increase the approved lift capacity, rack loading limits or cooler mobility rating. Use the equipment’s nameplate, approved drawing and manual.

Choosing a corpse refrigerator

A mortuary refrigerator should match the required storage capacity, access and room layout. Compare the listed AMC upright models, then confirm the selected configuration and installation requirements in your quote.
