Mortuary Cooler Electrical Requirements: Why 115V Plug-and-Play Beats Hard-Wiring
Most AMC upright mortuary coolers are true plug-and-play: 115V / 1-phase / 60 Hz, 4.6 running amps, factory-supplied NEMA 5-20R cord and plug, on a dedicated 20-amp circuit. No electrician hard-wiring, no three-phase service, no surprises at install.
The four electrical rules
- Dedicated circuit. 15A minimum circuit ampacity, 15A max overcurrent protection — don't share the circuit with prep-room equipment.
- No extension cords. The manual is explicit: never connect the unit to power with an extension cord.
- No adapters, keep the ground. Plug into a grounded three-prong outlet; never remove the grounding prong or use a power adapter.
- Qualified electrician for any wiring work. Electrical connections must be completed by a qualified electrician, and factory wiring must not be changed without written factory approval — changing it voids the warranty.
Voltage tolerance and warranty
The manufacturer's warranty requires supply voltage within tolerance of nameplate (single phase +10%/−5%). Brownout-prone facilities should verify service quality — a stamped electrical schedule ships with every AMC quote so your electrician can confirm before delivery.
Larger systems
High-capacity models like the 12 Body Triple-Door and custom walk-ins may run 208–230V single or three-phase with remote-split refrigeration — those installs get engineering support at quote. Full wiring diagrams and the controller manual are on the Packaged Refrigeration Manuals & Startup Guide.
