Maintenance Schedule

Frequency Tasks
Each lab session Wipe splash zones and lid exterior; confirm lid closes and seals fully; check fluid level against the fill line; log fluid condition (clarity, odor).
Weekly Cycle the lift through full raise/lower (electric: listen for actuator strain; manual: check crank engagement and smoothness); inspect tank seams and corner welds; clean lid gasket and check for compression set; verify casters lock.
Monthly Inspect actuator boot and cable strain relief (1035-03P); test GFCI protection on the supply circuit; check drain valve for full seal; clean fluid-contact surfaces per your embalming-solution supplier's guidance.
Semester / Quarterly Full fluid change per your anatomical program's protocol; degrease and descale tank interior; lubricate lift screw or pivot points per model manual; record on the Quarterly Inspection Log.

Fluid Management

Immersion tables hold cadavers in preservative solution for extended courses, so fluid condition drives both specimen quality and equipment life. Keep fluid at the marked level (low fluid exposes tank walls to concentrated chemical films), skim debris after each session, and never mix chemistries between fluid changes without your supplier's confirmation. When draining, follow your wastewater plan — many jurisdictions require collection rather than sanitary-sewer disposal for formaldehyde-bearing solutions.

Electric Actuator Care (Model 1035-03P)

  • Cycle weekly even during breaks — long idle periods are harder on actuators than regular use.
  • Keep the actuator boot dry; wipe, never spray. Confirm GFCI trips and resets monthly.
  • If the lift slows, strains, or stops mid-travel, remove the table from service and call USPE before further cycling — continued operation under strain shortens actuator life.

Lid & Gasket Care

The lid gasket is what keeps vapor in the tank and out of the room. Clean it weekly with mild detergent, inspect for nicks and flattening, and replace at the first sign of compression set. A sealing lid materially reduces the exposure load your ventilation system must handle.

Compliance Notice: Equipment selection should be reviewed with facility safety officers, licensed contractors, ventilation engineers, and applicable authorities having jurisdiction. USPE equipment supports professional workflow and cleanability but does not independently guarantee OSHA, EPA, CAP, Joint Commission, state, local, or institutional compliance.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should immersion table fluid be changed?

Follow your anatomical donor program's protocol — commonly each semester or when clarity and preservation quality decline. Between changes, maintain the fill level and skim debris after every session.

Why cycle the electric lift weekly if the table isn't in use?

Actuators and lift screws fare better with regular movement. Weekly cycling redistributes lubricant, reveals developing problems early, and prevents the flat-spot and stiction issues that show up after a summer of idle time.

Can immersion fluid go down the drain?

Often no. Formaldehyde-bearing solutions are regulated by many local sewer authorities and may require collection, neutralization, or licensed disposal. Confirm with your wastewater authority before the first fluid change — our drainage planning checklist covers the questions to ask.
