Double-Deck Casket Transport: Capacity, Loading & Safety
How a powered double-deck system lets one operator move four caskets per run — capacity, powered loading, rollers and glide strips, and the safety latch that holds the deck.
Double-Deck Casket Transport: Capacity, Loading & Safety
Moving multiple caskets in a single van run is a logistics win — but only when the load is secured and loaded safely. A powered double-deck system lets one operator transport up to four caskets, two per deck, without strain or a second crew member. Here's how capacity, loading, and safety come together.
Capacity: four caskets, one trip
The AME-DD4000 carries four empty caskets — two on the lower deck, two on the powered upper deck — in a full-size cargo van. For mixed loads of cots, cremation containers, and caskets, the AME-DD2000-XLC handles two caskets plus cot and container configurations.
Loading: powered deck does the lifting
The electric upper deck tilts up and down in seconds. Load the lower deck first, raise the upper deck, then load the second level — no manual hoisting. Nylon casket rollers and polyethylene glide strips let caskets slide into position with minimal friction, and high-impact bumper arms ease the transition onto casket trucks at the destination.
Safety: latch, securing, and stability
- Integrated safety latch locks the upper deck in the raised position so it can't lower if the actuators fail.
- Interchangeable bier pins secure caskets of varying sizes on both decks.
- Bolted-down installation with a bulkhead keeps the system stable during transport.
- 600 lb. upper deck capacity with reinforced lifting geometry for daily use.
Frequently asked questions
How many caskets can a double-deck van carry?
Up to four empty caskets with the DD4000 — two per deck — loaded and secured by a single operator.
What happens if the powered deck loses power?
The integrated safety latch holds the upper deck in place, preventing it from lowering if the actuators fail.
Are these caskets loaded occupied or empty?
Casket transport systems are rated for empty caskets. For occupied first call work, see cot- and container-rated configurations like the DD2000-XLC.
