2026 Mortuary Freezers: Models, Prices & Installation
A mortuary freezer purchase starts with the holding requirement, not the number of bodies printed on the cabinet. This 2026 guide compares AMC upright mortuary freezers, side-load access and walk-in freezer rooms, with the installation details that matter before equipment reaches your receiving dock.
For a compact cabinet, start with the upright mortuary freezer family. For a room planned around racks or carts, compare walk-in mortuary freezers. The current product page and your confirmed order drawing control the selected configuration; photographs illustrate equipment, not guaranteed clearances or every included option.

Mortuary refrigerator or mortuary freezer: specify the temperature first
A mortuary refrigerator, also called a mortuary cooler or morgue refrigerator, is not interchangeable with every freezer configuration. Ask what operating temperature your facility requires, how that temperature will be monitored, and whether the quoted equipment is rated for the actual room conditions. Do not use a model name alone as the temperature specification.
The AMC 2B-F, 3BX-F, 4BX-F and 3BX-SL-F upright listings in this guide specify standard 32°F (0°C) holding. That is not a claim of subzero storage, deep freezing or rapid freezing. If your protocol requires a temperature below 32°F, obtain written confirmation of the exact refrigeration package and operating range before ordering; a heated door and pressure-relief valve do not establish a lower temperature rating.
For context, the Human Tissue Authority’s post-mortem guidance distinguishes refrigerated storage at approximately 4°C from freezer storage around −20°C. That is HTA guidance, not a statement of a US legal requirement and not a performance claim for these AMC upright models. Your facility’s responsible professionals must determine the applicable storage protocol and local requirements.
Compare the AMC upright mortuary freezer family
The four cabinet configurations below have listed prices, rather than a quote-only starting point. Prices shown are base equipment prices checked October 30, 2026, before options, shipping and tax; the selected variant on the product page is the purchasing price. Position count does not establish a body-weight rating or guarantee that every tray, case or handling device fits.
| Model | Layout | Base price | Compare |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2B-F | Two-position upright | $15,997.00 | 2B mortuary refrigerator |
| 3BX-F | Three-position upright | $18,034.00 | 3BX mortuary refrigerator |
| 4BX-F | Four-position upright | $18,995.00 | 4BX mortuary refrigerator |
| 3BX-SL-F | Three-position, two-door side load | $18,394.68 | 3BX-SL mortuary refrigerator |
For these four upright freezer listings, the caster package adds $345 and factory box assembly adds $455. Selecting both adds $800 to the base equipment price. These are equipment options, not freight charges, and they do not include electrical work or refrigeration placement.
Front loading or side loading: plan the transfer before choosing
Front-loading upright cabinets place the storage positions behind the narrow end of the cabinet. Before choosing a two-, three- or four-position unit, measure the approach space for the actual lift and tray and check access to the highest loading position. A higher position count is useful only when staff can reach every tier with compatible equipment.
The 3BX-SL-F side-load mortuary freezer uses a two-door, long-side access arrangement. Its matching refrigerator is the 3BX-SL, not a front-loading 3BX with a different door label. The supplied April 15, 2025 refrigerator drawing identifies a 95-inch-wide by 40-inch-deep by 70-inch-high cabinet and an 87-inch clear side opening; freezer-specific refrigeration and the final installed envelope still require the confirmed freezer drawing.
Compare door swing, lift approach, tray travel and the receiving route on one room layout. Do not treat a clear opening as a tray specification or assume that an external rack replacement roller fits an internal cabinet shelf.
Heated doors, heated jamb and pressure relief
The four listed AMC upright freezer packages include a door heater system, heated jamb and pressure-relief valve for the specified standard 32°F holding configuration. The door seal and relief path need to remain clean and unobstructed. Do not change heater wiring, block the relief opening or remove a protective device to make a door easier to operate.
The heated jamb requires a hardwired 115V connection installed by a licensed electrician. That connection is separate from factory box assembly. Have the electrician check the supplied wiring diagram, nameplates, grounding and every required circuit; do not assume that plugging in the refrigeration unit energizes the jamb heater.
Cabinet height is not installed height
Three numbers must stay separate: the cabinet height without casters, the installed rise of the caster package, and the height of the specified refrigeration package. Add the applicable component heights, then allow the access and ventilation space required by the exact refrigeration instructions. A six-inch wheel does not necessarily add six inches to a cabinet because the mounting assembly has its own height.
The current 2B, 2BX, 3B and 3BX refrigerator listings show a 65-inch cabinet and 72¾-inch cabinet height with the listed caster package: a 7¾-inch increase. Their illustrated 16¾-inch refrigeration package gives 89½ inches with those casters. Those are refrigerator configuration references, not freezer height approval.
The supplied 3BX-SL refrigerator drawing instead shows a 7½-inch caster rise: 70 inches becomes 77½ inches before refrigeration, or 94¼ inches with the illustrated 16¾-inch package. The 4BX caster drawing also shows 7½ inches of rise; its 83½-inch cabinet becomes 91 inches before refrigeration, with a 108-inch nominal overall callout for that drawing revision. Confirm the final freezer-specific installed height rather than transferring one refrigerator total to every freezer.
What factory assembly actually includes
Factory assembly means assembly of the freezer box only, with casters installed when selected and applicable. Interior shelving installation and setting or installing the compressor/refrigeration unit are not included. It is not a turnkey installation or a statement that the equipment can be loaded immediately after delivery.
The included compressor/refrigeration package ships loose on its own pallet, separate from the cabinet, to simplify customer-managed placement and installation. Plan safe unloading and lifting before delivery, then follow the exact mounting and connection instructions. Electrical work belongs with the licensed electrician, and any refrigerant work must be performed by appropriately qualified personnel.
An unassembled order requires cabinet assembly as well as interior and refrigeration work. A factory-assembled box removes the box-assembly step, not the shelving, refrigeration, heater wiring or commissioning steps. For installation planning, use the equipment installation guide alongside the exact model manual and refrigeration documents.

When a walk-in mortuary freezer is the better layout
A walk-in freezer room lets the facility plan racks, carts and staff movement within a defined enclosure. Start with the actual rack footprint and loading approach, then check the insulated floor, ramp, door opening and refrigeration selection. Nominal outside room size is not the same as usable interior storage space.
For a smaller room, compare the 6×8 and 8×10 walk-in mortuary freezers. If you are planning a larger enclosure, use the walk-in freezer size collection to compare the current sizes and options. Do not assume that every walk-in shares the upright family’s 32°F specification, heater connection, assembly option or caster arrangement; confirm the chosen room’s own operating range and utilities.
Keep fixed room equipment separate from mobile storage equipment in the plan. A caster on an interior rack changes that rack’s loading height, not the exterior height of a floor-mounted freezer room. Floor loading, door thresholds and the route to the room must be checked for the selected equipment.
Replacement parts: order by the equipment and the component
Use the AMC parts library to identify the equipment family before selecting a replacement. Record the complete model, serial number, manufacturing year and the component being replaced; clear photographs of the installed part and its mounting points help avoid a wrong order. A refrigerator door gasket should not be treated as a freezer gasket simply because two cabinets look alike.
Keep external mortuary rack parts and body/casket lift parts in their own families. End-loading and side-loading gravity-roller racks use different components from multidirectional ball-transfer decks. A part listed for a particular rack or lift is not automatically a direct fit for an upright refrigerator or freezer’s internal shelving.
Where an exact replacement is not publicly listed, request a model-specific match instead of ordering the nearest-looking part. Follow the fitment and return terms on the individual part listing; do not assume compatibility with another manufacturer or an unlisted model. The replacement-parts and service planning guide explains the information to collect.
Questions to settle before placing a freezer order
Is the quoted model suitable for below-freezing storage?
Check the written operating range for the exact refrigeration package. The four AMC upright configurations above are listed for standard 32°F holding, not deep-freeze performance. Obtain a separately confirmed specification if the facility requires a lower temperature.
Does adding casters change the height?
Yes, when a caster package is selected, its installed rise adds to the cabinet height. Use the model-specific caster rise rather than the wheel diameter, then add the selected refrigeration package. A floorless or floor-mounted model without a caster option should not be assigned a hypothetical caster height.
Will the compressor arrive mounted on the cabinet?
The included compressor/refrigeration package for these upright orders ships loose on its own pallet for customer-managed installation. Factory box assembly does not include compressor placement or interior shelving installation. Plan personnel, lifting equipment and the required electrical work before the freight arrives.
Which measurements should go on the purchasing checklist?
Record cabinet dimensions, clear door opening, caster rise if selected, refrigeration height, required service clearances and the receiving route. Add the tray dimensions, rack tier positions, approved load ratings and the lift’s working reach. Resolve any missing value on the final model-specific order drawing before committing the room layout.
Start with the upright freezer comparison or the walk-in freezer family, then use the AMC contact page to resolve the site details that are specific to your facility. Ask for the confirmed configuration, utilities and installation documents together so the purchasing and installation teams are working from the same information.
